When one man, for whatever reason, has the opportunity to lead an extraordinary life, he has no right to keep it to himself.
The overall experience was absolutely one of the best that I've ever had in business class. I had no real expectations going into this and came away with a real fondness for AC. If this is the service standard that they are able to consistently deliver, they have to be one of the best airlines in North America.
This lounge is a clear improvement over the AC Maple Leaf lounge; it is far more elegantly furnished, has better food options and better coffee. Still, in an international context this is by no means a competitive facility. This is not a scratch on the facilities of HKG, TPE and NRT that many of this lounge's guests will be accustomed to.
The seat was large and comfortable and featured both power and entertainment.
The crew were polite, friendly and efficient (if a little lacking in oenoligical knowledge).
The food was plentiful, healthy and delicious with a decent selection of drinks to accompany it.
If BA Club Europe was anything like this I wouldn't hesitate to pay the premium every time I fly!
This may well be the most insanely luxurious trip I have ever taken, using miles and points.
From the moment that I first laid eyes on the press release for Etihad's apartments, I knew that I would have to find a way to try this product as soon as humanly possible. The idea of having a bed, armchair, fridge, lamp, widescreen TV, wardrobe and vanity area for every passenger in First Class was just unimaginably amazing. I had a horrible feeling that Etihad would limit availability or crank up the price to some ridiculous level (like Singapore did when they first introduced suites to the market), however none of that turned out to be the case.
Overall another great flight, if anything this was even better than my first QR J experience at the beginning of the trip. The service was extremely attentive, every dish I tasted was superb and every item of F&B which I ordered was in stock whenever I ordered. More than anything, flying QR J imbues you with a feeling of freedom. You can do what you want, when you want and are never beholden to the whims and desires of other pax or the cabin crew. Leave your seat when you want, eat when you want, sleep when you want. How many airlines can claim likewise?
I handed over our boarding passes and sure enough the light on the scanner flashed red and let out its 'magic beep'.
"Is that a good beep?", I asked.
"Only if you like being upgraded to First Class, sir."
As I stepped on board my jaw nearly hit the floor.
This did not look like any cabin I had ever seen before. It looked more like the shuttle used by the higher orders of an alien society, commuting between their galactic empires:
I know they say that you shouldn't revisit your favourite places, they never live up to the memories. Here I'd built a trip around three return visits and still I was quietly confident that things wouldn't just turn out ok... they would turn out spectacularly
The CX reverse herringbone business class seat is often used as the benchmark for what is acceptable in a business class product nowadays. For a daytime flight I absolutely agree. It supplies storage, comfort and direct aisle access to every single passenger. There really are no bad seats on Cathay, it's nicer to get a window seat of course but it isn't a massive downgrade to end up in a middle seat.
